Never let it be said that NASCAR drivers are unfriendly to their fans and don’t do their best to give the fans what they want. Likewise, never let it be said that NASCAR fans don’t love their drivers and won’t do anything to spend a few seconds in their presence.
Andy Lally was the 2001 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year Driver and this weekend he is racing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. When he arrived at the track late Saturday morning, he tweeted out that fans should visit the fan zone and say hello. An hour later he tweeted against, simply saying, “Yup . . . Just signed a boob”.
The soon to be 39-year-old driver from Long Island, New York driver races out of Atlanta, Georgia for Magnus Racing. When he is away from the racetrack he is a cross-country mountain bike racer. In 2009 he was part of a four man team that won the Men’s Sport division of the 24 Hours of Big Bear.
Always a competitor, Andy Lally is also a World Champion street luge racer. In 2009 he took part in the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) World Championships held in Bathurst, Australia, in both Street Luge, finishing second, and Classic Luge, which he won. In 2012 during the World Championships in Calgary, Canada, Andy Lally won the title in both events.
In the spring of 2012 Andy Lally tweeted out, “I don’t want a girlfriend, I just want a thunder buddy. #ThunderBuddiesForLife”. To date, Andy is still single.
