Darelle Revis Are the Jets making room for Revis or to better their team? The New York Jets have begun cleaning house and making room.  It was expected, especially after the three-ring circus show we watched last season.  The part that is unexpected, what are they clearing room for?

The New York Jets released veterans linebacker Calvin Pace, safety Eric Smith, backup offensive lineman Jason Smith and tight end Josh Baker, clearing about $24 million in salary cap space.

The New York Jets entered the offseason more than $20 million over the cap for the 2013 season.

With a couple more obvious contracts needing to be dumped, will the Jets use this cap room freedom to re-sign Darelle Revis or work on their future?  Are the Jets finally done with making bad contract decisions? Or will they spend the money to get a used up, over paid, over hyped and coming off an injury Revis?  Funny thing is, I don’t think the New York Jets have learned their lesson.  Even after this whole Tim Tebow fiasco, I honestly believe that the Jets will over pay to keep Revis.

Don’t get me wrong, once upon a time Revis was a top 5 cornerback.  He was never the best, but he was worth some good money.  Those days are long gone, just like the (Revis) Island that was washed away.  Revis is no longer a top 5 corner in the NFL and will have to get used to the fact those days are in his rearview mirror.  The Revis of today is about a 6 to 10 cornerback in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see what the Jets do over the next few days and even weeks.  Will they continue spiralling out of control or do they get this team back on course?  Honestly, Rex Ryan“s career depends on it.
