Boston Strong: Toronto Just Made an Angry Bear Even Madder
It’s one thing to just mess with a rival team’s heads or the fans but it’s another thing to go after the entire Boston population and well that is exactly what one Toronto Fan did last night during Game 3 of the Boston/Toronto Series.
The sign seen here not only enraged the Bruins and their fans but outraged the “inner-bear” in every person in the city of Boston. And probably ever other NHLer and fan there is in the world.
The sign was held by an unidentified Maple Leafs fan and, as reported by the Globe and Mail’s James Mirtle, made a brief appearance on the Air Canada Centre video scoreboard before a quick cut away.
“Overwhelmingly, the reaction has been that it was done in bad taste, that it was inappropriate, that it was classless,” CBC sports reporter Carly Agro said. “Certainly this is not being received well at all.”
“Toronto Stronger” is a play on “Boston Strong,” the phrase that became widespread across the United States following the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured more than 250.
In Boston, last night’s sign sparked major outrage and rightfully so. The whole hockey community took to social media to voice their outrage and opinions on how this classless sign hurt everyone. This is not how hockey should be seen or played out. Stick to hating rival teams in a more decent way hockey fans. Oh, and Boston proved on the ice last night that they were and are indeed stronger than the Maple Leafs at this point.
