Patrick Roy isn’t just the new head coach of the Avalanche that wants to bring a “Stanley Cup attitude” back to Colorado; he’s also the new vice president of hockey operations, a role that allows him input on all player-personnel decisions made by Joe Sakic, the executive vice president of hockey operations.
One thing Roy wants Sakic to explore, according to Renaud Lavoie of RDS: Trading the team’s first overall pick at this summer’s draft? Eh, we have heard of such crazy antics done before and well, it could slightly benefit the Avs to deal the pick. Rumors will fly and we will continue to tear them apart and try to find the truth. But as of now Roy is only suggesting Sakic should explore the option and if Sakic doesn’t out right come out and say the pick isn’t on the table these rumors will make the Draft that much more intriguing.
The two top candidates to be picked first overall are Portland defenseman Seth Jones and Halifax forward Nathan MacKinnon, both of whom have the potential to be franchise players in the NHL. If you are an Avs fan would you want to part ways with the 1st overall pick? Other fans and teams around the league hope to have that advantage coming their way.
