Matt Kenseth 300x200 Matt Kenseth and JGR make it a long term relationshipIn a time and era where wins mean little and sponsorships mean survival, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that they have extended their contract with Matt Kenseth.  In the same press conference that announced that Dollar General not only will be with JGR and the No. 20 team for the 2015 season and beyond, but that they were also upping the number of races they will sponsor, we heard there has been an extension of Kenseth’s contract.

After coming off the 2013 season with seven wins, more wins in a single season in the No. 20 car than had ever seen with Tony Stewart or Joey Logano, and finishing second in the points to Jimmie Johnson (by 19 points), JGR, Dollar General and Matt Kenseth felt this was the best move for the organization and the No. 20 team.

“Extending my deal with JGR is exciting and I’m still hoping we can match our win total from last year, but it’s really been a special year-and-a-half together,” Kenseth said.  Joe and J.D. have been fantastic and show a commitment to providing all of us with the resources needed for a winning organization and I’ve been blessed with a great team led by Jason (Ratcliff).  The support we get from TRD has been tremendous and I’m excited for the future here with the No. 20 Dollar General team.”

With sponsorships in the bag, Matt Kenseth’s contract extended and about half the season still left to race, can all these certainties ease up Kenseth’s pressures and help him getting back on the winning path?

Obviously Joe Gibbs himself believes so……..

“This is a big day for everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing,” said Joe Gibbs, owner and founder of Joe Gibbs Racing, “Matt has obviously had a big impact across our entire organization and our partnership with Dollar General has been fantastic.  It’s exciting to be able to announce both extensions that will keep this team together for years to come.”
