AFC West Draft Grades and Analysis

2014-draft-needs-AFCW

Denver Broncos
1st round pick #31 – Ohio State CB Bradley Roby
Bradley Roby fills a need for the Denver Broncos at corner as they lost both their starting corners last year in Dominique Rogers-Cromartie to the New York Giants and Champ Bailey to the New Orleans Saints. Roby has untapped potential and all the athletic ability you could want, but needs to work on tracking the ball and being more consistent on and off the field.

2nd round pick #56 – Indiana WR Cody Latimer
Cody Latimer brings with him a 6’3 215 lb. frame along with blazing speed to add to a receiving corps. that already has DeMaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Emmanuel Sanders, and pass catching TE Julius Thomas...

Dream Season Ends in Nightmare for Chiefs

outsiders link logo 2 300x208 Dream Season Ends in Nightmare for Chiefs

In 2012, the Kansas City Chiefs were picked to be one of the upcoming teams and the possible AFC West division winner over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Afterall, Romeo Crennel was just hired as the new Head Coach in Kansas City after having taken down an undeated Green Bay Packers squad the previous year as the Chiefs interim Head Coach. That season ended in one of the all-time worst coaching jobs the NFL has ever seen as the Chiefs couldn’t get out of their own way and finished the year at 2-14. Chiefs fans started clamoring for change and change is exactly what they got when Clark Hunt fired Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel. We all knew Matt Cassel was also on his way out as we turned the page to yet another new chapter of Chiefs regime.

Shockingly, Clark Hunt was on a plane an...

Jovan Belcher: Remembering a Tragedy

belcher1

As many of you may well know, it was this time last year that the NFL world was rocked by the tragic and senseless death of Jovan Belcher, former linebacker of the Kansas City Chiefs and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins. It was December 1, 2012 that Belcher shot his girlfriend, the mother of their three month old daughter, 9 times in front of their home. The violence did not end there, Belcher than drove to the practice facility of the Chiefs and shot himself in the head, in front of the former head coach Romeo Crennel as well as the former general manager Scott Poili.

Belcher used one gun to murder his girlfriend and then used a different gun to kill himself...

Alex Smith the Answer at QB for Chiefs?

joe montana

joe montana Alex Smith the Answer at QB for Chiefs?Kansas City Chiefs are off to their best start since 2003 as they head into Nashville at 4-0 to battle the 3-1 Tennessee Titans. Many people are heaping praise upon the new quarterback, Alex Smith, and rightly so. He has played, for the most part, mistake free football dinking and dunking short passes for four games straight now and relying on one of the league’s best defenses. 4-0 is great, but that’s what the Arizona Cardinals thought as well last season before crumbling right before our very eyes. I do not see the Chiefs crumbling, however, I do have concerns about the offense and Alex Smith in particular.

The shockingly rare downfield targets that Alex Smith has thrown have been highly inaccurate. To win a Super Bowl I believe you need a QB that can make every NFL throw and push the ba...

AFC West Predictions

afcwest AFC West Predictions

The AFC West is a pretty weak division. It consists of the Broncos, Raiders, Chargers & Chiefs.
Broncos 11-5
Chiefs 9-7
Chargers 8-8
Raiders 6-10
Why I chose those records? The Broncos are 1 of 4 dominating teams in the AFC and will most likely make it to the Super Bowl. Chiefs finally have a winning quarterback possibly can bring better things then Trent Green. The Chargers will find a spark but not until later until the season and next season will become what we have seen in the past. The Raiders will look decent this year depending if they pick Pryor or Flynn I would rather have Pryor as my starter neither of them have really been given a real shot but we will see.

Training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs at Missouri Western State University (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

With so many changes coming into the 2013 season for the Kansas City Chiefs it’s time to look at just how much this team has evolved. We’ve been through OTA’s and mini-camps, but at the end of July we head to training camp, where the work really begins and your team comes together. The Chiefs had many weaknesses last year as the worst team in the league, but it’s a new year with many new parts so let’s take a look at their strengths and weaknesses heading into training camp...

Chiefs 2013 NFL Draft Review: Chiefs Fans Pray They’ve Struck Gold With Bray

image 2708 Chiefs 2013 NFL Draft Review: Chiefs Fans Pray Theyve Struck Gold With BrayAfter coming off an embarrassing 2012 season going 2-14 instead of the 10-6 or better record that a majority of the pundits were calling for the Chiefs have made numerous changes to avoid a fan revolt. New Chiefs General Manager  John Dorsey comes over from the Green Bay Packers where Ted Thompson was the man in charge. I’ve made jokes with some fans who’ve said, “Look what Dorsey did in Green Bay.” I say back to them that John Dorsey got Ted Thompson coffee and made his sandwiches while watching Ted draft great player after great player as well as making key moves in free agency. I hope John did learn a lot in his time at Green Bay and I’m sure he did, but Ted Thompson was and is the mad genius for the Packers, not John Dorsey...

What Acquiring Alex Smith Means for the Chiefs

CasselPats 271x300 What Acquiring Alex Smith Means for the Chiefs

Remember how good Matt Cassel looked in New England? (Courtesy examiner.com)

The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a trade that will send Alex Smith to Kansas City. Smith was the number one overall pick in 2005 and was considered a bust for most of his career until Coach Harbaugh arrived and revitalized Smith’s career. Alex Smith has looked better the last two seasons throwing 30 touchdowns and only 10 INTs (10 games in 2012). But has Smith played so well because he is asked to do less with a stacked team? The 49ers have stacked their roster with young wide receivers, a great running game, and quite possibly the best defense in the NFL...

Has it Really Been 13 Years? R.I.P. Derrick Thomas

image 2546 Has it Really Been 13 Years? R.I.P. Derrick Thomas

13 years ago today on February 8th, 2000 the Kansas City Chiefs lost a member of their family when Derrick Thomas passed in the hospital after a car accident. I remember standing at my High School locker when a couple of my friends came up and asked me if I heard the news about Derrick Thomas. They then told me that Derrick has passed away and I was in utter shock not able to comprehend what they had just said. I was unable to concentrate the rest of the school day as I pondered how this larger than life figure I had grown up watching could suddenly be gone. A man who did so much to give back to this community and a man who terrorized quarterbacks every Sunday during the season was now gone while we were left asking why?

Derrick Thomas had so many great moments it’s hard to pick just one ...

Quarterback is a must, but not the only need for the Chiefs

image 1177 Quarterback is a must, but not the only need for the ChiefsWith three games left in the 2012 season the Kansas City Chiefs are tied for the worst record in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars at 2-11. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans they are a year late on the spectacular rookie class that has seen Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Russell Wilson take the league by storm. In the upcoming 2013 NFL draft no quarterback seems worthy as draft expert Todd McShay has the first quarterback, Geno Smith from West Virginia, going 8th to the Arizona Cardinals in his latest Mock Draft. In my opinion the Chiefs need to find their guy and draft him with their first pick whether that is Matt Barkley from USC, Geno Smith from WVU, Aaron Murray from Georgia, or someone else that has stood out to them.

The Kansas City Chiefs ...

The Cleveland Browns to play their sloppy seconds

image 1001 The Cleveland Browns to play their sloppy seconds

Cleveland Browns (Photo credit: zoonabar)

Growing up my mother always told me I should share my used and old toys for the less unfortunate and Cleveland Browns have done just that.  Today the Browns will do battle against the Kansas City Chiefs at home.  A game that features a Browns team that has shown improvements by great leaps and bounds and a team that has swallowed up all of the Browns unworthy rejects.  From Scott Pioli, Romeo Crennel, Brady Quinn to Peyton Hillis.

The Browns head into this weekend 4-8, with the smallest glimpse of a playoff shot.  Does anyone expect the Browns to make it?  HELL NO.  But is it possible?  The Giants won two Super Bowls behind Eli Manning didn’t they?  With history always repeating itself, all things are possible in the NFL!!  They will matc...

Ted Sundquist for Kansas City Chiefs General Manager in 2013!

Ted Sundquist for Kansas City Chiefs General Manager in 2013!The Kansas City Chiefs are a league worst 1-9 this season with Peyton Manning looming on the horizon this Sunday; and at the helm of this disaster is General Manager Scott Pioli. When Scott arrived in 2009, he handpicked Matt Cassel to be the franchise Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Since that time Scott has the worst record for a General Manager in Chiefs history at 22-37. Scott’s record against teams with a winning record is a measly 3-16. The Chiefs have lost by 14 points or more 20 times in 59 games during Scott’s tenure. Lastly, when the Chiefs give up more than 24 points in a game they are an unbelievable 0-25 in those games.

Let’s take a trip back to the 2012 offseason where Scott Pioli tried to call Peyton Manning and Jeff Fisher to come visit Kansas City; only to have...

Here’s Looking at You, Scott.

imagesCAPX6F70 Heres Looking at You, Scott.
November is a time to remind us of all we have to be thankful for in our lives; unless you’re a Kansas City Chiefs fan that is. This season that started with so much promise and expectation has come crashing to the ground, with no Denzel Washington to make a miraculous landing to save us all. The Kansas City Chiefs are a league worst 1-7, haven’t held a lead through their first 8 games, and are last in the league in turnover differential at -20, while the next worst is the Cowboys at -11. At the start of the season most pundits believed the Chiefs had the most talent in the AFC West and would win the division, yet 8 games into this season the Chiefs are battling the Jacksonville Jaguars for the top pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
After getting blown out by the San Di...

Kansas City Chiefs are to blame for fans reaction

matt cassel

matt cassel Kansas City Chiefs are to blame for fans reactionAs harsh as this sounds, the Kansas City Chiefs are the reason for the crowds reaction on Sunday.  What were they expecting?  The economy is down, but the prices of tickets are still up.  Fans spend their hard earned money to support their team and pay their teams salaries.  For what?  To see the Kansas City Chiefs finish last in their division again?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not promoting fans cheering when a player gets hurt, as a matter of fact I am a firm believer that all players take a knee and the fans remain silent until the player walks of the field or is escorted of the field.  At the same time I don’t blame the fans and the Chiefs organization needs to take a deep look at its sidelines and take responsibility.

How does a team with such history, such tradition and such prid...
